1260. Philip Ludwig BOEHM441 was born in 1646 in Dorheim, Hesse, Germany.441 He died on 23 January 1723 at the age of 77 in Ravulzhausen, Hesse, Germany.441,442 "Philippus Ludovicus Boehm was born in Dorheim, Hesse, a village in the Weterau between Frankfort-on-the-Main and Giessen, in 1646. He attended the Latin School at Hanau-on-the-Main in 1665, as the 34th student of the first class, according to Rev. William Hinke, in his book "Life and Letters of the Rev. John Philip Boehm". Philip L. also attended the University of Marburg as shown on a record dated 27 Aug 1666. He became the Dutch Schoolmaster of the Walloon Congregation in the new town of Hanau where he married Maria Engelhard, the daughter of Johann Christoph and Maria (Balde) Engelhard. Maria was born 21 September 1651 and died 29 June 1693 at Hochstedt according to Fritz Braun.
Philip was ordained as a minister to preach the gospel of the German Reformed Church 22 October 1679, and he officiated at the first wedding at Hochstadt 19 February 1680.
In August 1684 he was sent a reprimand from the Conistory of the Church for chasing game with a gun through the vineyards. This was a misdemeanor which was strictly forbidden and he received a suspension of several weeks. he never did learn to curb his tongue and was given to sarcasm. Once, when asked by a village official why ministers had such beautiful horses to ride, Boehm answered that the Great Lords had made all the asses their servants, therefore, ministers were compelled to ride horses. He was suspended from office for four weeks for this statement. Later, two more suspensions were imposed upon him because of his caustic remarks. He served at Hochstadt from 1680 until 1688, when after his third suspension, he was transferred to Kesselstadt.
The congregation at Hochstadt requested Rev. Boehm be sent back to them and he returned 14 January 1691. During his second pastorate there Maria died (1693 according to Fritz Braun). On 11 January 1694, Philip Ludwig married a widow, the daughter of Jacob Bernes. This marriage was very stormy. His domestic troubles interfered with his church work and in January 1701 he transferred to Rumpenheim-on-the-Main. In February 1709 he was transferred to Wachenbuchen.
Three years after arriving at Wachenbuchen, circa 1712, Rev. Boehm developed cataracts on both eyes. A famous eye specialist, Dr. Hieronymus Siegfried of Langenselbolt, operated on Boehm's right eye 18 June 1713, but five days later the rev. became severely ill and was no longer in condition to carry on his work. Later in that same year, he was retired at his own request. ("Life and Letters of the Rev. John Philip Boehm" by William Hinke). Philip Ludwig's name appears for the last time in the records of the Hanau Consistory 15 May 1726, where he is referred to as the "lately deceased pastor." he died 23 Jan 1723 at Ravolzhousen at the age of 77 years."
