840. John HUNT435 was born about 1693 in Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., NJ. He signed a will on 11 February 1740/1 in NJ.409 His will states, "the plantation on which he [Jonathan] now dwells, he paying the several demands due to Loan Office whereupon as they shall become due to his heirs and assigns forever." The father left to Jonathan's brothers Gershom, Daniel, and Enoch "the plantation on which I now dwell" with his widow Margaret to have free use of the house so long as she remains a widow and of the lands "until my sons shall come of age successfully" and the youngest sone Enoch, when he comes of age, to provide for his mother. Wido Margaret and the oldest sons, Wilson and Jonathan, were named as executors of the estate. He died in September 1748 at the age of 55 in Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., NJ.409 Will proven for name at place on date.409 Children Wilson, Charity, Noah, and Enoch remained at Hopewell, NJ (Albeit Enoch reputedly was a Colonel in the French and Indian War and killed at the Battle of Quebec). The other five were among the pioneers at the "Jersey Settlement" in Rowan Co., NC.
According to Mrs. Orson Haynie's manuscript: see Liber BBB of Deeds, P. 154, at Sec. of State, N. Jersey. The Hunts of New Jersey were not Quakers; they were Presbyterian. Some of the descendants who removed to Rowan Co., N. Carolina, became Baptists. John Hunt's will is of record in New Jersey; will Probated Oct. 1748. See Consuelo Furman mss. pg. 29. Margaret MOORE and John HUNT436 were married on 8 February 1714 in Long Island, Queens Co., NY. Could have been married in 1713. married in Newtown Presbyterian Church, Long island, NY. Wilson, Charity, Noah and Enoch remained at Hopewell (albeit Enoch reputedly was a Colonel in the French and Indian War and killed in the Battle of Quebec). THe other five were among the pioneers at the "Jersey Settlement" in Rowan Co., NC.

John HUNT Jr. was born in 1720 in Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., NJ.435 He signed a will on 20 February 1787 in Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., NJ.437 He died on 25 August 1795 at the age of 75 in Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., NJ.438 Buried in the Hunt Family Burying Ground near Marshall's Corner, NJ. Gershom HUNT437 was born about 1723 in Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., NJ.438 He died in 1807 at the age of 84 in Rowan Co., NC.439 Presumably buried in the Hunt Family Cemetery on North Potts Creek, off Tyro Road. On 10 Oct 1985 there were no stones left with identifiable marks and only four stone fragments left. At one time there were at least 50 graves and about half had markers. Earlier compilation of data on headstones showed stones for his son David Hunt and the latter's family. He signed a will on 28 April 1807 in Rowan Co., NC.437 Divided his property between his wife Elizabeth and sons Abraham, Elijah (110 acres next to David Hunt--who is not mentioned as a legatee but is shown to have received 100 acres in the division of the property), and leaves five shillings each ot his daughters Charity Hunt, Hannah Lynn, Jean Beard, Elizabeth Hussey, Susanna Hunt, and Mary Clark. Executors were his sons Abraham and Elijah, witnessed by (neighbors) Robert Wilson and WIlliam Wiseman. Survey and distribution was made by WIlliam Moore 8 Jan 1812. Will proven for name at place on date. No documentation has been found until 20 Nov 1760 when deed records show Henry McCulloch selling (for 24 pounds, 8 shillings and six pence, with annual rental of 3 shillings sterling or 4 shillings proclamation money) to "the planter Gresham Hunt of Rowan Co., NC", 359 acres in Tract 9 beginning at Potts Creek, around which site Gershom appears to have lived the rest of his life. Gershom Hunt was a foreman of a grand jury in Rowan Co. 3 Apr 1769 and was on a grand jury 2 Aug 1774. On 13 Aug 1773 he was witness to the sale by Peter Madrick

Dr. Daniel HUNT440 was born about 1726 in Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., NJ.440 He signed a will on 30 August 1789 in Rowan Co., NC. He died in 1802 at the age of 76 in Rowan Co., NC.440 Will proven for name at place on date.440 Daniel was said to have been a Doctor in Trenton who followed his brothers Johnathan and Gershom down to NC and dies there in 1806. Deed records show that on 20 Feb 1767 Daniel Hunt, "planter of Rowan Co., NC." received from Henry McCulloch, Esq., 230 acres on both sides of Swearing Creek "known by the name of Thomas Biles old place" for forty pounds (quit rents excepted, but 43 pounds is acknowledged in receipt). witnessed by Gershom Hunt and Thomas Frohock and proved by the latter in May of 1774. Daniel obtained an additional 31 acres on 7 Apr 1773 on Swearing Creek and Beaver Dam Branch. On 30 Aug 1789, Daniel Hunt, "while very sick and weak." made his will listing his wife Susanna and children John, Gershom, Arthur, Daniel, Owen, Abel, Jonathan, Margaret, Ann, Charity, Hannah (wife of John Green), named executors wife, son John, and John Green. The will was proved in August of 1802 by Mrs. Susanna and John Hunt by which it was assumed that if he was "very sick and weak" in 1789, he recovered and lived another 13 years.

Enoch HUNT436 was born (date unknown). Enoch was reputedly a Colonel in the French and Idian War and killed at the Battle of Quebec.
