44. John G. GRAVES147 was born on 29 February 1780 in Orange Co., NC. Name paid Taxes value place date He signed a will on 10 January 1861 in Knox Co., TN. August Term 1867, Will of John Graves
I, John Graves, being sound in mind and of a well disposed disposition, do make and publish this my last will and testament.
First, my will is that all my just debts be paid.
Second, I give and bequeath to my son James Graves the plantation on which I now live adjoining the lands of John Floyd, Bales heirs and others. Beginning on a White Oak thence north 13 degrees West 56 poles to a stake, thence Eastward 17 poles to a stake, thence Northward 46 poles to a black oak near the barn, thence Eastward 15 poles to a Sycamore, thence Northward 37 poles to a post oak on the Valley Road, thence with said road Eastwardly 45 poles to a Spanish Oak on the North side of the road. Thence North 13 degrees West 67 poles to a stake & chestnut stump in the field, thence Westward 40 poles to a black gum on a dry branch, thence Northwestward 46 poles to a Spanish Oak on a spur of Copper Ridge, thence with the same ridge South 47 degrees West 50 poles to a Spanish Oak thence South 13 degrees East 245 poles to a black oak thence north 12 degrees east to the beginning containing 108 acres more or less. The condition of this bequest is that my wife and myself hold said plantation with the house we now occupy for a full & comfortable support during our natural lives after which my son James Graves above named is to take have, hold, full, free & entire possession in said farm and everything thereto belonging with a full and entire title as is vested in myself for the same.

L. M. Mynatt He died on 10 March 1867 at the age of 87 in Knox Co., TN.147 Buried in the Graves Family Cemetery. John was buried in March 1867 in Graves Cemetery, Graveston, Knox Co., TN.18,148 Also known as the Boston Graves Cemetery. On Jim Wolfe Road near Corryton, TN. There is a tombstone beside John Graves and Mary Trout Graves in the Graves Cemetery that reads: E.J. Graves, aged 4y 7mo, died Aug 14 1854.
Buried in the Boston Graves' Cemetery on Wolf Road. John was a farmer and ran a general store according to the Nicholas Gibbs Society. John bought from his father, Boston Graves, a 183 1/2 acre farm, located on the west fork of Flat Creek, on 13 Jan 1806. John also bought 29 acres of land from Eli Skaggs on 6 January 1826. According to the 1850 Agricultural Census of Knox County, John had 40 acres of improved land and 68 acres of unimproved land. this farm was estimated to be worth 500 dollars. He also had three horses, three milk cows, ten other cows, twelve sheep and twenty hogs. His livestock was estimated in value at two hundred dollars. He produced twenty bushels of wheat, three hundred bushels of Indian corn, one hundred bushels of oats, fourteen pounds of wool, forty bushels of Irish potatoes, twenty bushels of sweet potatoes, 250 pounds of butter, fifty pounds of cheese, two tons of hay, thirty pounds of flax, and two bushels of flax seed. He also produced fifty dollars worth of homemade items and slaughtered sixty dollars worth of livestock.
John Graves, son of Boston, sold his son Henry 100 acres on Flat Creek December 31, 1844, Book N-2, P. 86. THis 100 acres was the southwest part of the 183.5 acre tract that Boston bought from Levi Hinds February 4, 1799. The Graves Cemetery is on that tract. Ambrose Bates bought this 100 acres from Henry Graves July 31, 1851, Book Q-2, p. 325. Mary TROUT and John G. GRAVES were married on 22 December 1801 in Knox Co., TN.147,148 There is a tombstone beside John Graves and Mary Trout Graves in the Graves Cemetery that reads: E.J. Graves, aged 4 y 7mo, died Aug 14 1854. Could this be a child of John and Mary Graves?? The grave markers were rocks with names, initials and dates carved into them.

45. Mary TROUT was born on 30 March 1782 in Botetourt Co., VA.147 She died on 28 March 1865 at the age of 82 in Knox Co., TN.149 Buried in the Graves Family Cemetery. She was buried in March 1865 in Boston Graves Cemetery, Corryton, TN.18 Buried in the Boston Graves' Cemetery on Wolf Road.

George GRAVES was born on 26 June 1805 in Knox Co., TN.149,150 He died on 31 July 1863 at the age of 58 in Union Co., TN.149 Believed to be buried in the Graves Cemetery.

Nancy GRAVES was born on 16 October 1808 in Knox Co., TN.151 She died about 1852 at the age of 44 in Grainger Co., TN.151

iv.

Henry GRAVES was born on 22 February 1812 in Knox Co., TN.151 He died in Dubois Co., IN.151

v.

Rutha GRAVES was born on 2 June 1814 in Knox Co., TN.151 She died between 1870 and 1880 at the age of 56 in Knox Co., TN.152

vi.

Mary GRAVES was born on 2 June 1814 in Knox Co., TN.153 She died before 1830 at the age of 16 in Knox Co., TN.153 Graves has her born 25 Jul 1816 and Walker has her as a twin to Ruth.

Hulda GRAVES was born on 10 August 1818 in Knox Co., TN.153 She died before 1830 at the age of 12 in Knox Co., TN.153
